ASUU Strike: We have resumed Discussion with FG We will give Nigerians feedback in a week
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have said the Prof Nimi Briggs Committee is in discussion with the unions.
Talking in a meeting with The PUNCH on Sunday, the ASUU's National President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, said the union had been haggling with the Briggs Committee since last week over its requests.
ASUU started its continuous strike on February 14, 2022 after the Federal Government neglected to fulfill a portion of its needs specifically; the arrival of revitalisation assets for colleges, renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU understanding, arrival of procured recompenses for university teachers, and organization of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution installment stage.
The PUNCH reports that on March 7, 2022, the Federal Government introduced a seven-man panel led by the Pro-Chancellor of Alex Ekweme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Prof Nimi Briggs.
The advisory group, as would be considered normal to survey the proposed FGN/ASUU Agreement, has its terms of reference, some of which incorporate; to liaise and talk with applicable partners to conclude the place of the FG to the issues in the draft proposed FGN/ASUU reevaluated understanding; revise in reasonable and functional terms the 2009 concurrences with other university-based unions; and arrange and suggest some other issue the board considers pertinent to reposition the National Universities Commission for worldwide seriousness.
Osodeke said, "We are talking about with the Federal Government through the renegotiation group and we began the week before.
"The discussion is among ASUU and the Briggs Committee and understanding ought to be haggled discreetly. At the point when we agree, we will come to the press. We trust this methodology/discussion will tackle the issue with the goal that by the following week, we will brief Nigerians. Give us a brief period."
